Indian view on NRM

The Government of India has taken several actions to promote and regulate natural resource management in the country. Some of these actions include:
  • National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC): The NAPCC was launched in 2008 to address the challenges of climate change in India. The plan includes eight missions, one of which is the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA), which focuses on promoting sustainable agriculture practices and natural resource management.
  • Forest Conservation Act: The Forest Conservation Act was passed in 1980 to regulate the diversion of forest land for non-forestry purposes. The act requires state governments to seek the approval of the central government before diverting forest land, and also provides for the resettlement and rehabilitation of people affected by such diversions.
  • National Biodiversity Act: The National Biodiversity Act was passed in 2002 to regulate access to biological resources and associated traditional knowledge. The act requires anyone seeking to access biological resources or traditional knowledge to obtain prior permission from the National Biodiversity Authority.
  • National River Conservation Plan: The National River Conservation Plan was launched in 1995 to clean up polluted rivers in India. The plan focuses on promoting sustainable wastewater management practices and improving the quality of river water.
  • National Agroforestry Policy: The National Agroforestry Policy was launched in 2014 to promote the integration of trees into farming systems. The policy aims to enhance soil health, conserve water, and promote biodiversity, while also providing additional income for farmers.
  • These are just a few examples of the actions taken by the Government of India to promote and regulate natural resource management in the country. The government is committed to sustainable development and is continuously working to develop and implement policies and programs that promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
